Letter 'P'
This illuminated letter 'P' is a compound letter, the small yellow diamond representing the letter 'O'. Below is a large bird, wings outstretched. As the Celts stylised the creatures they drew it is often hard to identify exactly which animal or bird is being represented. However, peacocks are featured frequently and are believed to represent immortality. According to ancient belief, their flesh is so hard it doesn't putrefy. Doves and eagles also appear regularly. Doves are thought to signify the 'Holy Spirit' whereas the Eagle was the chosen symbol for St. John, one of the evangelists. Fabric: 14 HPI Aida
